Month in Review: Teamwork & Triumph

January at Hong-Kingston Elementary School was defined by high energy and strong teamwork. From the basketball court to the classroom, our Brothers are learning that discipline, balance, and high expectations lead to real success.

Energy was high as IYT staff showed up to support our Brothers at their first basketball game of the season! Brothers Alexander, TJ, Donovan, and Josiah shared how meaningful it was to see their mentors in the stands, cheering them on beyond the school day. That support carried onto the court, where the team played with focus, discipline, and strong teamwork to secure a 39–19 victory. The game was a powerful reminder that encouragement matters and that Brotherhood extends far beyond the classroom. We are incredibly proud of their effort and commitment to each other!

Life Skills: Building Bonds - The "BROTHER" Game

This month, Brothers took part in an engaging, high-energy workshop called “BROTHER,” a modified HORSE-style game designed to strengthen connection and character. As they took turns shooting hoops and spelling out the word BROTHER, the activity blended friendly competition with intentional relationship-building. Each made shot earned a Brother the opportunity to ask another participant a question related to academics, personal life, or future goals.

The Takeaway: The activity sparked communication, accountability, and trust while keeping Brothers energized. Through the game, they supported one another, reinforcing the idea that true growth happens both on and off the court.

Academic Achievement: Brother Donovan

The Scholar-Athlete

Balancing academics and athletics with focus and discipline, Donovan Benson is already making a strong impression as a new 6th grader with IYT. While staying active in sports, Donovan has made a clear commitment to giving his best effort in every class. That hard work has earned him a spot on the honor roll, and his teachers consistently share that he is a pleasure to have in class. Kudos to Donovan for raising the bar and leading by example!
