Campus Tour: UC Berkeley

IYT Brothers head to UC Berkeley to get a taste of student life

Recently our university partners at UC Berkeley were gracious enough to host 22 of our IYT Brothers from Franklin High School for an unforgettable adventure.

During this immersive experience, Brothers explored the beautiful and historic campus and enjoyed a meal in the dining commons. Perhaps most importantly, they heard powerful stories and received invaluable advice from IYT alumni currently attending the university.

It might seem simple, but hearing directly from someone who’s been in their shoes, and is succeeding at a top university is a complete game-changer; serving as a clear reminder that they belong in these spaces.

The day came to a high-energy close as the group cheered courtside at an exciting basketball game. When the Brothers headed home, they felt a renewed sense of belonging, inspired to directly pursue their biggest dreams.

Our campus tours are an integral piece of what makes IYT College Academy so successful. We can (and do) consistently tell these young men that they are capable of achieving anything they set their minds to, but the value of experience, of actually bringing them to a campus, is powerful in a different way. These campus tours inspire our young scholars to see themselves thriving at a college or university, turning the idea of higher education from abstract to attainable.
