Impact Update: IYT Sacramento

Last month was full of lots of exciting workshops and initiatives, so we thought we’d share some of the highlights happening in IYT school sites across our Sacramento region.

December was defined by a balance of joyful celebration and meaningful mentorship. As the year came to a close, our focus shifted to rewarding the hard work our Brothers put in throughout the semester and reinforcing the village that supports them. From the high energy of our Fun Zone trip to the inspiring dialogue at the Cordova Men of Color panel, our Brothers ended the year strengthening bonds with their peers and connecting with the leaders who champion their success.

Brothers Celebrate the End of the Year

IYT hosted an all-day Fun Zone for all Brothers from 6th through 12th grade from Mills and Mitchell to celebrate an amazing year. The event created a safe, high-energy space for Brothers to network and burn some calories! Students all had a blast and ended 2025 with full bellies, big smiles, and feeling excited for the new year.

IYT Brothers Make Their Voices Heard

Our members from Mills joined Cordova’s campus for an engaging Speaker Panel featuring men of color, where they shared stories about their educational journeys and experiences. The panel not only provided insight and inspiration but also helped put faces to the men on campus who stand in the Brothers' corner and proudly believe in the mission of IYT.

The experience was truly special–bringing together familiar faces, meaningful conversations, and a space where brothers could reconnect with friends and see firsthand the strong community supporting them.

Simon Says Helps Brothers Develop Valuable Leadership Skills

Leadership came to life as Brothers jumped into hands-on activities, discovering what it truly means to guide and inspire others with confidence and purpose. Since leadership is a core focus at IYT, we want our Brothers to walk with a sense of purpose. One standout moment featured Brother Tyrell, who was hand-selected to lead a game of Simon Says, and whatever he did, the class followed. It mirrored real-world dynamics: you either lead or follow, and IYT encourages all Brothers to step up and lead with confidence!

A Step Forward for the Brotherhood Journey at Florin High School

The Brotherhood journey at Florin High took a major step forward this month with the rollout of our core curriculum. Building on the strong sense of belonging established earlier in the year, the focus shifted toward "actionable leadership." It wasn't just about learning concepts; it was about applying them.

The new sessions challenged our Brothers to:

  • Take Ownership: Moving beyond simple teamwork to true accountability, where every member plays a role in the group's success.

  • Refuse to Settle: embracing a growth mindset that views academic challenges not as roadblocks, but as opportunities to sharpen their perseverance and character.

Brother of the Month: Luis

Brother Luis has been unstoppable ever since joining IYT this past year. A 6th grader with an outstanding 4.0 GPA, Luis shows up every day ready to participate, raising his hand and giving his best in every activity.

His dedication and enthusiasm earned him Brother of the Month just before winter break, and he was celebrated with a hot meal and a college t-shirt to inspire a college-going mindset.
