Recap: College Academy Workshops

IYT Workshops: Bay Area | Central Valley | Sacramento

Our workshops are a valuable piece of what makes IYT programming impactful. We take pride in developing custom sessions that are fun and immersive, while also creating space for students to connect with each other, broaden their perspectives, and build the kind of valuable skills that will continue to serve them for their entire lives.

We offer many workshops throughout the school year, but we thought we’d give folks a peek behind the curtain to check out photos and more from a few of our recent sessions.

Sacramento High School

IYT Brothers at Sacramento High School participating in a workshop titled “Rooted,” by LaVonte Hill.

Vista Nueva

Students at IYT on the Vista Nueva campus took part in a workshop called “The Man I’m Becoming,” which offered them a glimpse into the future they’re creating. Speaking with honesty and courage, they shared their goals for the future. The room was filled with powerful energy, as each student brought their unique voice and perspective to the conversation.

Rio Americano

IYT Brothers at Rio Americano took part in a workshop called Arabic Heritage Awareness, where they sampled various foods and learned about Arabic culture. As they enjoyed different types of hummus and naan, they learned about the history, geography, customs, and rich traditions connected to Arabic culture.

Jesse Bethel

Building the future you want starts with asking the right questions, and our recent College Research Workshop focused on exactly that. Brothers learned how to research different colleges and identify the environments that best match their academic, personal, and career goals. They explored factors including campus size, location, academic programs, student life, and resources on campus. An interactive discussion helped them carefully consider the type of environment that would best support their future goals, and walked away with the tools needed to think more intentionally about their future pathways.

Golden Valley

Students had the opportunity to practice real-world scenarios during this month’s Mock Interview Workshop. Pairing up, they took turns practicing interviews for scenarios including jobs, scholarships, and college admissions. Exercises like these help students sharpen their skills, build confidence, and prepare for future academic and career opportunities in a fun and supportive environment.

Merced High School & Weaver Middle School

Students from Merced High School and Weaver Middle School participated in a fun and engaging workshop designed to promote team building. Breaking up into small groups, they worked together with the shared goal of building the tallest freestanding tower using only marshmallows and spaghetti. As they tested different designs, they worked collaboratively, adjusting strategies and supporting one another as new ideas came to the surface. This fun challenge helped students strengthen their teamwork, skills, think critically while under pressure, and work together towards a common goal.
