Impact Update: Madison Metro School District
This month across our Madison sites (La Follette and Capital High Schools), the focus was on building connections—both with each other and with our future selves. Whether battling it out on the basketball court to strengthen our bonds of brotherhood or diving deep into personality assessments to align our traits with future careers, our Brothers spent November learning who they are and who they want to become.
Brotherhood on the Court: Enrichment Basketball Activity
IYT hosted an awesome Brotherhood Enrichment Basketball activity where Brothers from across the district came together for a fun and interactive game.
While the competition was fierce, the purpose went far deeper than the final score. It was a powerful opportunity to bond, build teamwork, and strengthen our collective sense of identity. This shared time on the court helped our Brothers connect, support one another, and continue growing together as a united IYT community.
Workshop Spotlight: Personality & Purpose
Myers-Briggs & Career Alignment
Our Brothers completed a full lineup of programming this month, tackling seven distinct sessions ranging from "Accountability in Action" to "Digital Leadership." However, the highlight of November was our Myers-Briggs Personality & Career Alignment Workshop.
In this session, students explored the different personality types to understand how their own traits connect to their identity, strengths, and areas for growth.
Key Takeaways:
Career Matching: Using their assessment results, Brothers identified specific work environments where they are most likely to thrive.
Fun Discovery: One of the favorite moments was discovering which celebrities, fictional characters, and scholars share their personality type, making the self-discovery process relatable and engaging.
Brother of the Month
Brother Kenji continues to shine through his determination, consistency, and strong work ethic. He shows up to programming regularly, participates fully, and brings a focused, committed attitude to every session.
His drive toward academic success and his steady presence make him a standout example of what it means to embody IYT values. We’re proud of his hard work and grateful to have him in our space. Keep it up, Brother Kenji!
Featured Mentor
My “Why” Statement: Coming from a low-income, minority background—and knowing firsthand how challenging it can be for someone with similar lived experiences to reach college—I’m driven to be the support system I once needed. I strive to serve as a role model who makes a meaningful, positive impact on the lives of our IYT brothers. My goal is to help these scholars rise to their highest potential as they transition into the next stages of their lives. Ultimately, I want to embody the guidance, encouragement, and belief that I wished for growing up.
