Recap: Highlights from IYT Wisconsin’s Recent Program Showcase

When real transformational work happens in education, you can feel the shift in the room. That exact sense of purpose and momentum defined the recent Program Showcase hosted by IYT Wisconsin at the Verona Area High School in late September.

The event brought together key figures from across the region: state and local elected officials, district superintendents, school principals, dedicated educators, and community clergy leaders. We extend our sincere gratitude to Verona Area School District Superintendent Dr. Tremayne Clardy for hosting this landmark gathering and supporting a shared vision for systemic impact.

The showcase offered a behind-the-scenes look at daily programming, and gave attendees the opportunity to hear directly from the Brothers themselves.

“We’re not here as a savior program. We’re working collaboratively with our educators, with our school districts, to ensure that we assist all of our brothers. We’re here to assist the work that’s already happening that our educators are putting in daily.”
— Korbey White, Executive Director of IYT Wisconsin

Reflecting on Progress & Mapping the Path Ahead

The showcase provided a comprehensive overview of IYT Wisconsin’s foundation, current outcomes, and future trajectory.

  • Vision and Orientation: Setting a clear tone for the day was IYT Co-Founder Michael Casper. He opened the program with an address that touched on accountability and hope, and shared the organization’s strategic vision for the future.

  • Impact and Testimonials: The Wisconsin team presented the annual report for the recently concluded school year, highlighting key student outcomes. Crucially, IYT Brothers took the podium to share firsthand testimonials about the direct impact of mentoring and program resources on their academic journeys.

  • Partner Recognition: The event formally acknowledged the crucial contributions of school district partners, financial donors, and community supporters whose investments make this work sustainable.

  • Strategic Expansion: Leadership outlined structured expansion plans at both the county and statewide levels to scale IYT’s college-access and mentorship pipeline to more young men of color across Wisconsin.

  • Stakeholder Feedback: District leaders and site administrators contributed key observations on the operational successes and insights gained during IYT Wisconsin’s inaugural school year.

Dismantling Stereotypes: A Powerful Conclusion

The standard of any mentorship model rests on the depth of engagement with young people. The final session of the showcase illustrated this principle in practice.

IYT Program Director Aaron Broadwater and College Access Mentor Specialist Jaylen Edwards facilitated an interactive workshop focused on personal identity and dismantling pervasive stereotypes. Rather than observing from a distance, invited guests engaged directly with IYT Brothers in candid dialogue. The young men articulated their lived experiences, examined their identities, and directly challenged prevailing societal assumptions.

Looking Forward

The IYT Wisconsin Program Showcase marked a clear step forward in constructing institutional support systems for young men of color across the state. The partnerships forged and the work demonstrated during this event laid a firm foundation for sustainable, generational impact across Wisconsin.
