IYT El Camino High School Impact Update: December 2025

December in Review: Leadership & Identity

December at El Camino High School marked the culmination of a powerful journey. Over the last two months, our Brothers have been exploring a single, defining question: "Who Am I Becoming?" Through a blend of deep introspection, brotherhood affirmation, and creative expression, students moved beyond simply "getting through" the semester. Instead, they recognized their own resilience, celebrated each other's growth, and set a clear vision for the leaders they are becoming.

To close out the year, IYT facilitators guided Brothers through a two-part series focused on identity and leadership.

  • November (The Foundation): We kicked off by defining leadership not as a title, but as an action. In the “The Kind of Leader I Am” reflection circle, Brothers identified their strengths—such as listening, focus, and consistency—while Mentors modeled vulnerability. The session ended with a powerful affirmation activity, reminding every student that their leadership is seen and valued.

  • December (The Vision): We moved from reflection to visualization with the Mid-Year Reflection Mural. Brothers contributed words, symbols, and drawings across three themes: past challenges, present accomplishments, and future goals. During the gallery walk, common themes of perseverance and academic focus emerged, reinforcing that growth is a journey best traveled together.

Brother of the Month

Brother of the month, Elijah, 11th grader from El Camino High School

Brother Elijah

11th Grade

Brother Elijah has been lighting up the Brotherhood this month with his consistency and dedication. He shows up to after-school programming ready to engage, listen, and put in the work, proving he takes his growth seriously every single day.

One of Elijah’s greatest strengths is his commitment to his education. Enrolled in dual enrollment courses, he pushes himself academically and takes bold steps to prepare for life beyond high school. His discipline, forward-thinking mindset, and determination to attend college set an inspiring example for his peers. Elijah is a true leader who understands that success requires effort and sacrifice.
