IYT Hong-Kingston Elementary School Impact Update: December 2025

December in Review: Amplifying Voices

December at Hong-Kingston Elementary was a month of profound transformation. From the national stage to the math classroom, our community proved that when you give young men and their mentors a platform, they change the narrative. Whether it was our Lead Mentor being featured in the New York Times or a 6th grader turning an "F" into a "B-", the message this month was clear: We are writing our own future.

National Recognition: Mentor Ricky in the NYT

IYT is proud to celebrate Lead Mentor Ricky, whose powerful story was recently featured in the New York Times! Ricky was invited to speak with Josh Fryday and Mayor Fugazi about his lived experience growing up in Stockton, navigating a high-crime environment, and overcoming challenges. He shared how IYT played a pivotal role in shaping his growth, confidence, and leadership.

Through this meaningful conversation, Ricky used his voice to speak for countless young men whose stories often go unheard. His perspective is helping shape discussions around what real investment and opportunity should look like in our communities.

The Turnaround: Brother Josiah (6th Grade)

Hats off to 6th grader Josiah, who turned his math grade around from an F all the way to a B-! Through dedication, consistent effort, and a refusal to give up, Josiah showed up and put in the work even when it was challenging. His progress is a powerful example of how perseverance can transform a student’s academic journey.

Vision & Standards: New Year's Resolutions

Students take a moment to write, reflect, set goals, and commit to growth in their academics, behavior, and personal development.

This month, our Brotherhood workshop ignited students’ focus as they crafted academic New Year’s resolutions. We connected their goals to the IYT standards of liberation, service, character, and teamwork, helping them see how these values show up in everyday choices. The Brothers shared their resolutions, sparking honest conversations and realizing that while everyone's goals look different, there is strength in holding one another accountable.

Brother of the Month

Brother Jesus, 6th grade, at Hong-Kingston Elementary School.

Brother Jesus

6th Grade

Jesus is being recognized for his outstanding consistency and leadership. He has not missed a single day of the program, consistently shows positive behavior, and is always ready to help others. Most inspiringly, Jesus shared that being part of IYT has given him a voice he did not know he had. His growth and presence continue to inspire and strengthen the Brotherhood.
