IYT Mark Twain Jr. High Impact Update: November 2025

November in Review: Vision Meets Action

To close out the semester, the IYT program at Mark Twain Jr. High School focused on two powerful themes: envisioning the future and celebrating the work it takes to get there. From walking the grounds of a university campus to mastering the art of "failing forward" in our workshops, our Brothers spent the final weeks of the term building the confidence and resilience needed for high school and beyond. It was a strong finish to a season of growth.

College Access: Expanding Horizons

Mark Twain Brothers wrapped up the semester with a dual celebration—a chance to explore their future and enjoy their present success.

Our college tour to Sonoma State University offered students a real glimpse of vibrant campus life. Brothers walked the picturesque grounds, visited key academic spaces, and heard firsthand about the vast opportunities a college education offers. For many, this was their first time setting foot on a university campus and imagining themselves as future scholars.

To recognize their consistency and engagement, Brothers were also treated to a special arcade trip. This celebration honored the students who have shown up consistently for study halls, workshops, and their peers all semester long.

Workshop Spotlight: From Brotherhood to Leadership

Fail Forward, Trust, & Teamwork

This month, Brothers turned everyday study hall time into a launchpad for leadership through hands-on enrichment workshops:

  • "Fail Forward" (Paper Airplanes): Brothers designed and tested paper airplanes, embracing the idea that mistakes are part of learning. Each "failed" flight became an opportunity to rethink and adjust—mirroring the persistence needed in academics.

  • Trust & Team Relay: Working together to complete cooperative challenges, students practiced communication, patience, and active listening.

  • High School Readiness: Brothers took ownership of their academic journey by helping assemble curriculum packets. This hands-on task gave them a look into the effort that goes into supporting their success.
