The Art of Failing Forward: Pittsburg’s Mindset Shift

Updated: 2 days ago

December in Review: Mindset & Momentum

December at Pittsburg High School was defined by the connection between mental resilience and academic results. As we closed out the semester, our focus was on equipping Brothers with the psychological tools needed to overcome setbacks. At the same time, we celebrated the tangible results of hard work, proving that when you master your mindset, the grades follow.

In December, IYT Brothers dove into “Growth in Action: The Power of Effort & Mindset,” a workshop emphasizing persistence and resilience. Through interactive activities and small-group sessions, students explored how their daily effort shapes their long-term goals.

Key takeaways included:

  • Confronting Fear: Learning to reframe setbacks as learning opportunities ("Failing Forward").

  • Tracking Effort: Hands-on exercises to connect everyday habits to college and career success.

  • Accountability: Building confidence through reflection and Brotherhood support.

By the end of the month, Brothers were equipped with stronger self-belief and practical strategies for resilience heading into the new year.

MLK Day Service

IYT Bay Area had the pleasure of honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service. We partnered with California Volunteers, Office of the Governor, and the City of Richmond, California to restore Parchester Park in Richmond, CA. The IYT team did painting, gardening and filled the playground with fresh mulch to give the Parchester community a welcoming and safe space. It is with gratitude and pride that I am encouraged to say, "We are always stronger and better when we work together and serve."
