November in Review: Building Leaders
November was a defining month for the Pittsburg Unified cohort. Across both Pittsburg High and Black Diamond High, our programming centered on a single, powerful theme: “From Brotherhood to Leadership.” While our Brothers focused on maintaining their GPAs before the holiday break, they also engaged in deep work to identify their personal leadership styles, understanding that their influence extends far beyond the classroom and into the digital and physical communities they inhabit.
From Brotherhood to Leadership
Over the past month, Brothers at both sites moved beyond the basics of connection to explore the responsibilities of agency and influence. Through engaging small-group activities, dynamic games, and personal storytelling, students practiced essential soft skills:
Communication & Empathy: Learning to listen and lead with understanding.
Decision Making: Understanding how choices shape reputation.
Digital Leadership: Navigating their online presence as an extension of their character.
By the end of the month, Brothers successfully identified their personal leadership strengths. This focus aligns directly with the IYT mission: transforming young men into self-aware, accountable leaders ready to positively influence their community.
