Leadership Spotlight: Welcoming Aaron Maybin

IYT Maryland is proud to welcome Aaron Maybin as our new Program Manager! Aaron is a former NFL player, published author, and community activist who has long been committed to supporting Baltimore’s most vulnerable communities. He brings a powerful blend of leadership and lived experience that aligns perfectly with our mission. Overseeing our Baltimore City School sites (Green Street Academy and SEED School of Maryland), Aaron has already made an indelible impact. He is consistently showing up, speaking life into our Brothers' goals, and reinforcing their path toward graduation and college. Please join us in welcoming Aaron to the IYT Maryland family!
State Partnership: Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation

IYT Maryland is proud to partner with the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation through the Youth Mental Health Corps. In its inaugural year in Maryland, 36 Corps members are serving in schools and community-based organizations across 10 Maryland Corps/Service Year Option host sites and two AmeriCorps programs throughout the state.
As Jonny Dorsey, Acting Secretary of the Department of Service and Civic Innovation, noted: "The launch of the Youth Mental Health Corps represents a dual focus on both the well-being of our young people and the power of service to drive change".
We are thrilled to share that on Martin Luther King Day of Service, IYT’s Service Member, CJ Gibbons, participated in a roundtable conversation with Governor Wes Moore and Secretary Jonny Dorsey. Hosted by the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation, this select conversation focused specifically on strategizing how to make mental health resources more accessible and amplifying the benefits of the Mental Health Corps. We are energized to contribute to a movement that prioritizes mental wellness and builds a healthier, more resilient future for young Marylanders.

Campus Impact: Updates from the Field
SEED School of Maryland
Early Academic Momentum

At The SEED School of Maryland, our Brothers are showing incredible academic strength. Across grade levels, students are maintaining solid GPAs and keeping struggling grades notably low.
What makes this so encouraging is that IYT’s biggest academic gains traditionally emerge after students have been engaged for two to three years. Seeing this kind of progress early is a powerful indicator that the Brotherhood, accountability, and wraparound supports are already taking hold. Our Brothers aren’t just “getting by”; they are building the academic habits that lead to stronger transcripts and future college pathways.
Anne Arundel County Public Schools: Meade Middle School
Service in Action

This February, the Brothers at Meade Middle School found a meaningful way to show love and gratitude to the adults who pour into them every day. As part of a School Appreciation effort, our Brothers delivered breakfast to teachers and staff across campus.
From the front office to the classrooms, the response was overwhelming. Staff members shared how uplifting it felt to be recognized in the middle of a busy school day. Acts like these reflect what IYT is all about: Brotherhood, leadership, and service.
Green Street Academy
Leading the Charge for Male Role Models

Green Street Academy is stepping up in a powerful way, calling on men from the community to show up and serve as positive role models for our scholars. IYT is proud to stand alongside them in this effort.
To kick things off, Green Street Academy is hosting a Community Breakfast on Wednesday, March 12 at 8:00 AM. The morning will feature real conversations with the “fellas” about emotional intelligence, community, and what it looks like to show up for scholars. If you or someone you know would be a great fit to mentor or volunteer, we invite you to join us!
