About the Partnership
Building a Healthcare Workforce That Reflects California
California faces a critical healthcare workforce shortage, with communities of color disproportionately underrepresented in the field. The C.A.R.E. Path — Career Access, Readiness, and Exposure Pathway — is a $2.19 million, multi-year partnership between Improve Your Tomorrow and Sutter Health creating a dedicated pipeline for young men of color to pursue careers in healthcare.
The initiative will serve more than 2,000 youth annually through IYT's 15,000-square-foot College Success Center in Del Paso Heights, reaching students from sixth grade through college across Sacramento, the Central Valley, and surrounding counties. The C.A.R.E. Path addresses this gap head-on through dedicated career navigation staff, paid internships, a new Sutter Scholarship Fund, construction of a purpose-built workforce development wing for hands-on training, and immersive field trips to hospitals, clinics, and biotech labs. Students will be prepared for roles across clinical, administrative, and mental health fields.
