Month in Review: Competition & Connection

February at Mills Middle School was all about bridging the gap, building community, and celebrating academic excellence. From friendly cross-campus rivalries to unexpected indoor games, our young men are proving that leadership and brotherhood go hand-in-hand.

Bridging the Brotherhood: Mills Middle vs. Cordova High Kickball

IYT Brothers from Mills Middle School and their feeder campus, Cordova High School, recently came together for a day full of friendly competition and connection. With Cordova located right next door, Mills IYT leadership reached out to Cordova Program Manager Francesca to host a joint IYT day.

Since both groups love sports, they decided on a friendly game of kickball. Brothers kicked, ran, stole bases, and ultimately connected with the older IYT students. By the end of the game, the Mills Middle "little brothers" proudly took home the win—and now hold ultimate bragging rights over Cordova!

Academic Achievement: Brothers of the Semester - King & DJ

At IYT, academic excellence and leadership are our top priorities. This semester, we are proud to recognize 7th-grader King and 8th-grader DJ as our Brothers of the Semester!

Both students have demonstrated outstanding commitment to their education, maintaining impressive 3.6 GPAs last semester and carrying that exact same level of achievement into the spring. They also hold perfect attendance in IYT and consistently step up when leadership is needed. King and DJ serve as dependable role models for their peers, showing poise, responsibility, and a willingness to lead. We could not be prouder of the young men they are becoming.

Rainy Day Resilience: The Bingo Battle

On a cold and rainy February afternoon, our Brothers had to stay inside instead of burning off energy outdoors. When asked who had ever played Bingo before, some students laughed and declared, “That's for grandmas!”

However, once the game started—and they learned each round included a prize—the energy in the room quickly transformed. The Brothers became locked in, focused, and highly competitive. What began with hesitation turned into an exciting and memorable activity that is now a staple classroom game!
