Month in Review: Unity & Authentic Strength
February at Vista Nueva High School was defined by powerful community action and deep, authentic Brotherhood. From honoring the legacy of Black leaders to shifting the narrative around emotional wellness, our young men are stepping into their power and showing what true strength looks like.
Leading in the Community: Honoring Dr. King & Black History Month

The IYT community came together to stand in solidarity with the Del Paso Heights community while honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Brothers attended the local march and resource fair, reflecting on Dr. King’s message of unity, service, and courage. To bring the energy, our Brothers even created a high-energy welcome tunnel to greet participants during the day’s events!
Later in the month, students helped lead a meaningful campus-wide Black History Month festival honoring the history, achievements, and cultural contributions of Black leaders and communities. Brothers took on leadership roles by volunteering at different stations, facilitating activities, and sharing information. Through these actions, they demonstrated the massive impact of student voice and community pride.

But the unity doesn't stop at community events. In the study hall space, our Brothers work side by side, ask questions, and help each other understand the material. Through teamwork and encouragement, they have created a positive learning environment where no one has to struggle alone—proving that academic success is about lifting each other up.
Redefining Healthy Masculinity: January & February Workshop Series

Our Brothers began the year engaging in workshops designed to strengthen habits, sharpen direction, and build persistence.
Month | Workshop Focus Areas |
January: Habits & Direction | The Grind Transfers, Consistency > Motivation, Direction > Pressure, Small Moves = Real Progress, Stay the Course, and Looking Ahead. |
February: Purpose & Power | Trust the Process, The Mask We Wear, Purpose Through Pressure, Media, Masculinity & Emotional Health, Circle of Trust, and the Wellness Wall. |
Deep Dive: Media, Masculinity & Emotional Health
During February, Brothers specifically examined how media messages influence ideas of masculinity and emotional health for young men of color. Messages like “men should always be tough” or “asking for help is a last resort” create unrealistic expectations. This session challenged those narratives, showing that true strength means vulnerability, self-awareness, and reaching out when needed. By sharing openly, Brothers connected with one another, acknowledged the pressures they face, and took meaningful steps toward embracing authentic self-expression.
Academic Achievement: Brother Marcos

We are proud to highlight Brother Marcos for his determination and commitment to academic success! He is actively working on completing his credit recovery while excelling in his current classes, proudly holding 3 As and 1 B.
